Note from the Chapter President

As your outgoing chapter president, I would like to reiterate what a great pleasure it has been to serve what I consider to be among the best chapters in the Society. I would like to acknowledge the fine work of many ASSE LA members who have strived in making this organization what it is today and will be in the future.

In addition to our second annual (and very successful) Joint Technical Symposium in October, we ended 2007 with two great events “Greening the Construction and Demolition Process” and "Current and Proposed Legislation That Will Affect the Practice of Safety and Industrial Health". Both sessions were requested by our members and were well received.

2008 started with an event that our Board is especially proud of. We held our annual meeting honoring members with 25 - 40 years of chapter service, our past presidents, the Gebb Award winner (Bill Taylor), and our first ever “Joe Kaplan Safety Professional of The Year” award winner (Don Kramer). I particularly enjoyed hearing from our founding member Joe Kaplan along with several other local leaders in our profession.

We can’t thank Don Kramer and Bob D’Amato enough for starting our very own Ontario Section to service the professional needs of ASSE members in that area. We sincerely hope that the enthusiastic support they have received will continue and eventually lead to a new chapter in that region.

Finally, I’m pleased that our membership has expanded to nearly 400 members and that this May we will hold our third annual Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) meeting. These two accomplishments are the result of the work and dedication of many, and we are proud to see them succeed.

Thank you to all of our 2007-2008 officers - We look ahead to building on your outstanding contributions!

Sincerely, Ed Becker, Chapter President
